Today I am 91-months old
Hello Summer!
Summer may conjure images of relaxing, sleeping in and generally not having any sort of schedule. I can assure you, that has not how our summer has started out. It has been a great month full of lots of family, fun and friends.
Cailin from NY and Susan from Pittsburgh came to visit in early June. We had a lot of fun visiting and seeing the sites around town. We all went to the Perot Museum along with cousins Emily and Abbie. We celebrated Father’s Day with a big swim party at Grandma’s house. We also celebrated Abbie’s 11th birthday! Cara wants to have 10 pool parties at Grandma’s house this year. She’s a funny one. Next summer, she told us, she wants to have 100 parties! That Cara, she sure likes her parties.
We finally finished up the Spring baseball season. We worked really hard and were the 1st place team and won the end-of-season tournament. I have been playing a lot of 2nd base and right field. This season I caught a few fly balls and slapped a few tags on runners. I knew watching all that baseball would pay off!
I have done a few camps this summer. Camp Invention is a science-based camp that I attended. It involves creative problem solving and working in teams. I attended with a couple kids from my school and really enjoyed it. I also went to my second year of Texas Ranger Baseball Camp. Camp is held at the Youth Ballpark in Arlington. Other than the very long drive there and back, it is a great week. Two of my teammates went to camp with me and we met up with our life-long friends, The Hodges’. The week focused on fundamentals and I learned how to bunt and slide. We got to go inside and use the Rangers’ batting cages a couple of times, which was pretty awesome.
The last day of Ranger camp, my parents had a huge surprise for me! I often ask if we can go to Citi Field to watch the Mets play. Mom and Dad planned a weekend for me and Dad in NY to watch the Mets! We left after Ranger camp and went to NY. We stayed with our cousin’s the Prices. On Saturday we met up with a whole bunch of family who came down from upstate, PA and RI for the game! It was great seeing my cousins Jack, Brian and Jessica AND watch the Mets WIN! After the game, Dad took me to have great pizza and then he showed me the house he grew up in and where he played baseball when he was a kid. On Sunday, we met up with Uncle Tom & Aunt Alice along with all the Price cousins for breakfast and then headed with cousin Owen and Uncle Tom to another Mets game. They didn’t win, but it was still a lot of fun and a weekend that I will always remember.
I’ve gotten to spend a few days at Grandma’s house, just me, this summer. We like to swim, go out to lunch and play Strat-o-Matic. Well, I like to play Strat-o-Matic, Grandma is getting better. Grandma took me to Build-A-Bear and I made “Sports Bear.” He is wearing a Ranger uniform. My book club is going well. We just read “Because of Winn Dixie,” which was a good read.
Cara has enjoyed summer too. She attended Princess Ballet camp, which combines two of her current great loves! She had a special weekend with Mommy when me and Dad went to NY. They got their nails done, made cookies, did chalk art, went shopping and out to lunch. Cara also likes to pretend she is “Super Woman” and currently enjoys wearing a cape that she colored herself and running around the house. She has been to art camp a few times and loves making all sorts of drawings. Unfortunately, a purple crayon was stuck in her sheets when they got washed. Now, all of our bed sheets have melted purple crayon on them! Oh well! Cara also has enjoyed playing with cousin Emily and her friends this summer, Brooklyn and Sophie.
We spent 4th of July at Grandma’s house with our cousins. Dad and Grandpap attended the Willie Nelson 4th of July picnic, which was a lot of fun. We went swimming, ate a lot and headed to a RoughRiders game for baseball and fireworks. We have done some other family fun activities – we went to the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Farmer’s Market and bowling. We checked out a neat ice cream place where you can design your own ice cream cookie sandwich, which was super yummy! We had a huge swim party with my friends at our community pool, that was a good time too.
Well, that’s how our summer has started off! I hope you are enjoying yourself. Until next month!
Love, Sean
