Name That Debater
OK, political gurus, policy wonks, and heck normal people as well, it is time for that fun game show:
NAME…
THAT…
DEBATER…
The show where we post quotes from the so-called “debates” and ask you to identify the speaker.
Presidential Debate One
“Middle-income families are being crushed. And so the question is how to get them going again, and I've described it. It's energy and trade, the right kind of training programs, balancing our budget and helping small business. Those are the — the cornerstones of my plan.”
“I think we've got to invest in education and training. I think it's important for us to develop new sources of energy here in America, that we change our tax code to make sure that we're helping small businesses and companies that are investing here in the United States.”
Presidential Debate Two
“I know what it takes to make sure that you have the kind of opportunity you deserve.”
“I want to build manufacturing jobs in this country again.”
Presidential Debate Three
“One, more economic development. We should key our foreign aid, our direct foreign investment and that of our friends — we should coordinate it to make sure that we — we push back and give them more economic development. Number two, better education. Number three, gender equality.”
“Number one, make sure that these countries are supporting our counterterrorism efforts; number two, make sure that they are standing by our interests in Israel's security, because it is a true friend and our greatest ally in the region. Number three, we do have to make sure that we're protecting religious minorities and women because these countries can't develop unless all the population — not just half of it — is developing.”
Vice Presidential Debate
“We want everybody to succeed. We want to get people out of poverty, in the middle class, on to lives of self-sufficiency. We believe in opportunity and upward mobility.”
“Stop talking about how you care about people. Show me something. Show me a policy. Show me a policy where you take responsibility.”
And now the answers, in each case, the Republican (Romney/Ryan) was the first quote, while the second was from the Democrat (Obama/Biden). How did you do?
Ben Franklin Bonus Round: Word Count of Freedom vs Security
“He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.”
P1 | VP | P2 | P3 | Total | |
Freedom | 3 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 7 |
Security | 12 | 35 | 13 | 18 | 78 |
PS – The word “Constitution” was only mentioned once in the four debates. Shame on ALL of them!
