On Term Limits (and another campaign promise)

Today, I had a very good conversation with a new advisor of mine. One of the questions I was asked was my thoughts about term limits. As a result of this conversation, I thought it would be a good idea to write about my ideas on the subject.

While I do not think term limits should be the law (in fact, I think they might be unconstitutional* – a violation of free speech) I do think politicians should agree before they begin to serve that they will not serve more than two consecutive terms in any one office. And, so, my second campaign promise.

I promise that if elected, I will not serve more than two consecutive terms in the Texas State Senate.

Honestly, this is the easiest promise I have ever had to make. I know that I have other things I want to do with my life.

* – I know the President of the United States in limited to two terms, but that was enacted via a constitutional amendment, which by definition is constitutional.
