Let’s Have a Real Voucher Program
The Statesman.com reports that my opponent, Senator Shapiro is backing a plan to have the Texas Education Agency “pay for one SAT or ACT college entrance exam for high school juniors this spring and summer, prompting more students to sign up to take the SAT, which costs $45 , and the ACT, which costs $47 with the optional writing exam.”
Vouchers are a good idea, but not for this. I oppose this use of taxpayer money for use in taking the college entrance exams. As commenter, DeargCeol points out, “if you can't afford $45 for an entrance exam, how are you going to pay for college tuition?”
That said, I am for creating a full school voucher program for all K-12 students in Texas. Let's break the education establishment once and for all and allow the money to go where the parents think is best!
